Interview with Ms. Murnane

Conducted by Pilar Cuenca and Nicole

Pilar & Nicole: What are you currently reading for enjoyment?

Ms. Murnane: The last book I read was We Were Liars by E. Lockhart

Pilar & Nicole; What do you want to be doing in five years?

Ms. Murnane:  In five years I want to be teaching.

Pilar & Nicole: What interests do you pursue outside of the classroom?

Ms. Murnane: I have my cosmetology license so I do friends’ and family’s hair.

Pilar & Nicole: To what teams and/or clubs did you belong as a student?

Ms. Murnane:  In high school I was on the swim team.

Pilar & Nicole: When did you decide to become a teacher, and why did you choose this

                        field?

College I took an education class and really enjoyed it.  Math has always been my favorite subject.

Pilar & Nicole: Why do you want to teach at the 8th grade level?

Ms. Murnane:  Algebra is my favorite type of math.  I think it’s most relevant to my

                        everyday life.

Pilar & Nicole: What do you like most about teaching as a career?

Ms. Murnane:  What I like most about teaching is the fact that I help people learn new

things.  It’s a good feeling when people understand something they

never knew before.  It’s also great when you get to watch students enjoy

                        something they have never tried.

Pilar & Nicole: Describe your teaching style.

Ms. Murnane:  I try to create a comfortable and respectful learning environment for all

                           the students

Pilar & Nicole:  What do you think is the greatest challenge facing students today?

Ms. Murnane:   The greatest challenge facing students today is the distraction from the

outside world that make it difficult for students to focus on school and

                            what should be important.

Pilar & Nicole: Tell us about a troubled student whom you have taught and how you

                           helped him or her.

Ms. Murnane:  One troubled student whom I helped was a young man who couldn’t

Graduate from high school because he could not pass the Regents.  I

worked with him every day during class and on his preps, drilling

questions and making connections.  This helped him pass the test.
